First Black Sheriff in Illinois History to Be Sworn-in on December 1
Edward B. Motley, Sheriff-Elect of Edgar County will be sworn in on December 1, 2010 at 8:15am at the County Courthouse in Paris, IL. Motley narrowly defeated two term incumbent Sheriff, Tim R. Cripps by 27 votes. The retired Federal Bureau of Prisons Warden, and former Deputy Commissioner, Indiana Department of Correction, will become the first black American to be elected to an office in the 187-year history of Edgar County and the first black Republican Sheriff to be elected in Illinois history.
